What to expect after
shoulder rotator cuff
repair surgery.
Arm in a sling or immobilizer for 6 weeks.
Range of motion exercises performed by therapist in clinic and family member at home for first 6 weeks after surgery.
At 6 weeks after surgery start of assisted range of motion exercises performed by the patient at therapy and with home exercise program.
At 2-3 months after surgery start of strengthening exercises performed by the patient at therapy and at home.
Return to normal activities of daily living in 2-3 months.
Return to normal lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling in 4-6 months.
Return to work is dependent on type of job tasks patient performs.
Length of physical therapy is 4-6 months.
Frequency of physical therapy is 3x/week for the first 1-2 months then potentially reducing frequency to 1-2x/week dependent on progress and desired goals to achieve.

Use of a walker for two weeks.
Use of a cane for 2-4 weeks.
Removal of staples two weeks after surgery.
Return to driving after 6 weeks.
Difficulty sleeping for 4-6 weeks.
Swelling and stiffness for 1-3 months.

Performance of home exercise program for 2-3 months.
Length of physical therapy is 6-8 weeks for one knee
replacement and 8-10 weeks for both knee replacements
at the same time.

What to expect after ACL reconstruction surgery
Use of crutches for 2-3 weeks.
Use of post-surgical brace for 4-6 weeks.
Return to normal activities of daily living in 6 weeks.
Return to jogging in 2-3 months.
Return to sports in 6-9 months depending on the sport returning to.
Length of physical therapy is 3-6 months
Frequency of physical therapy is 3x/week for the first month
then reducing in frequency each month dependent on progress
and desired goals to achieve.
